E-cigarette Ruling Information

On December 13, 2019, the Department of Public Health and Human Services announced its notice of intent to begin enforcing the emergency rules temporarily prohibiting the sale of flavored e-cigarettes. This includes all flavored e-cigarette products that contain nicotine, THC, and other compounds. The emergency rule goes into effect on December 18th at 1pm.

Vaping Related Lung Illnesses

As of December 10, 2019, there are 2,409 confirmed cases of lung injury cases possibly linked to e-cigarette use in 50 states and two territories. Under the Emergency Ruling, all cases of unexplained vaping-associated lung injury will be immediately reportable to your local health department in order to conduct necessary surveillance activities. Potential symptoms include:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Chest pain
  • Weight loss
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea

All patients reported vaping in the months prior to illness but a specific cause has not been identified. Patients reported using products containing THC, CBD, Nicotine, and other flavorings. For the most up-to-date information visit the CDC Website.
